TANGERANG - Tangerang Police are still investigating the discovery of an unidentified corpse found in a banana plantation in Bunder Village, RT 05/RW 01, Cikupa District, Tangerang Regency, Banten.

Police estimate the body had died for six to seven days before residents were found on Tuesday, November 18.

Tangerang Police Chief Kombes Andi Muhammad Indra Waspada Amirullah said the team was immediately dispatched to conduct a crime scene (TKP) and dig up witnesses' statements.

"It is estimated that he has died for six to seven days. Signs of violence cannot be explained in more detail because they are still waiting for the results of the post-mortem," said Indra in his statement, Wednesday, November 19.

The discovery of the body began with reports of residents who smelled a pungent aroma since Monday. The smell got stronger the day after until residents traced the source.

"Based on the residents' information, the unpleasant aroma was smelled the day before. The smell was getting stronger the next day so residents looked for the source of the smell," said Indra.

While searching the banana garden area, residents found a corpse wrapped in black plastic in the head facing down.

The Inafis team then carried out initial identification, but the identity of the victim could not be identified because the body had been decomposed.

"We have tried to check fingerprints, but they did not come out because they had died for a long time. Currently, the victim's body has been taken to the Balaraja Hospital for an autopsy," he said.

The police are now conducting a deeper investigation by tracing other possible clues and matching the findings with reports of missing persons in the Tangerang area and its surroundings.

Indra appealed to people who feel they have lost their family members to report immediately.

He also asked residents to provide information if they saw suspicious events around the scene.

"Information from the public is important to help the investigation process," he said.
