Boyfriend Forced Lover To Do Love Scamming, Arrested After Victim Claims To Be Persecuted

JAKARTA - Polda Metro Jaya arrested a man with the initials A (25) in the Cimanggis area, Depok, for cases of repeated abuse and coercion against his girlfriend, IN (25), to be involved in the mode of fraud under the guise of love scamming.

Wadirreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya, AKBP Putu Kholis Aryana, explained that the perpetrators and victims first became acquainted through the Bumble dating application before finally officially establishing a relationship in August 2024.

In October 2024, the two agreed to live together. Since then, they have often moved from residences, from North Jakarta to Depok, before the relationship ended in August 2025.

According to Kholis, during his stay together, the perpetrator forced IN to commit a criminal act. The perpetrator used the identity of the victim on the dating application to find a man who could be framed and broke into his account.

"Forced by the suspect to commit a criminal act in 2024 using the identity of the victim to search for targets in the Bumble application," said Kholis at Polda Metro Jaya, Tuesday (18/11/2025).

The perpetrator created Bumble's account as if it were a woman. After getting the target, victim IN was asked to date the man to find out about the ATM PIN.

The mode was successful. When the victim invited the target to swim, the perpetrator entered the rented apartment room and took the victim's ATM. With the PIN that has been obtained, the perpetrator drains the contents of the account worth Rp. 5 million.

After the first action, the perpetrator again urged to commit a similar crime. However, the victim refused, so that the perpetrators often abused and threatened him.

The violence that was carried out started from hitting, kicking, verbal violence, pushing, to threatening to spread the victim's personal photos, added Kholis.

The victim then reported to the police. The perpetrator was arrested in the Cilincing area, North Jakarta, on November 14, 2025.

For his actions, A was charged with Article 351 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code concerning persecution with a penalty of up to 2 years and 8 months in prison.

Previously, in a video circulating on social media, the perpetrator was called a woman to commit a similar crime. The victims were said to have been forced, tortured, and framed in a romantic relationship if they refused. The video also mentions that there was more than one victim and some have reported but have not received a follow-up.

The upload also mentioned that the perpetrator was a student and was involved in a motorcycle theft case in the Gelora Bung Karno area.

Currently, Polda Metro Jaya is still investigating the involvement of the perpetrators in other cases related to love scamming and persecution.
