JAKARTA - The Ministry of Human Rights (HAM) has designated Manggarai Village, South Jakarta (South Jakarta), as the first "Reconciliation and Peace Village" (Redam) in Indonesia.

Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai said the considerations for the formation of the Redam Village were in line with various world ideas today where the source-sources of the problem stemmed from each individual.

"So, if there are up to 9 billion people around the world, it can lead to problems or injustice," said Pigai at the appointment of Manggarai Village as Redam Village, in Jakarta, Friday, which was confiscated by Antara.

Likewise in Indonesia, he said, if there are more than 280 million people, then each individual can cause problems or become a source of injustice.

Even so, he said this does not only apply to individuals, but also applies to structural and institutional levels, including law enforcement, government, to ministries/agencies, so it is necessary to form a Redam Village, one of which is in Manggarai Village.

The Redam Village is an innovative program launched by the Ministry of Human Rights to encourage the process of peace, reconciliation, and recovery in areas that have experienced social conflicts in Indonesia.

On the same occasion, South Jakarta Mayor Muhammad Anwar said Manggarai Village was famous for the brawls that had existed since around 1970.

After being investigated, he continued, the causes of the brawls that occurred included various kinds, namely the presence of dense and slum areas, high mobility, so that certain parties took advantage of the situation.

To overcome this, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government also launched the "Manggarai Bershalawat" program, which uses a cultural and religious approach to invite residents to discuss and find the root of the problem, with the aim of creating a family atmosphere and channeling positive energy through positive activities.

"After that, the brawl was slightly reduced," said Anwar.

Thus, through the determination of Manggarai Village as Redam Village, he hopes that the village will be more free from brawls.

He suggested that the implementation of the Redam Village in Manggarai Village could later be carried out together with other stakeholders by involving the community.

"It is hoped that Kampung Redam can overcome traumaticism, instill human rights values, and provide solutions to resolve conflicts peacefully with different social problems between their regions," he said.
