Police Continue Psychosocial Assistance For Victims Of The Central Jakarta SMAN 72 Explosion

JAKARTA - The Bureau of Human Resources Staff (SSDM) of the National Police and the Psychology Section of the Metro Jaya Police HR Bureau continued psychosocial assistance and recovery for victims of the explosion at SMA Negeri 72 Jakarta, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.

Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Pol. Budi Hermanto in Jakarta, Sunday, said that the mentoring activities on Saturday, November 8 were focused on three main points, namely the Jakarta Cempaka Putih Islamic Hospital, Yarsi Cempaka Putih Hospital, and SMAN 72 Jakarta.

This support will continue to be carried out in a sustainable manner. We want to ensure that all victims and families get sufficient psychological support, along with the ongoing investigation process by the joint team," he said.

The activity involved dozens of psychologists from the National Police Headquarters and Polda Metro Jaya who were competent in handling psychological crises and trauma recovery.

The team provides assistance with the first psychological acid method, namely psychological initial assistance that focuses on emotional recovery, strengthening a sense of security, and managing post-event stress.

In the school environment, the National Police psychologist team also provided counseling sessions to school principals and teachers who were emotionally affected.

He emphasized that this psychosocial assistance is part of the National Police's commitment to providing post-incident holistic services, as well as showing the seriousness of the Metro Jaya Police in handling all aspects of the aftermath of the explosion.

Based on the results of field observations, it was recorded that there were still 12 victims being treated at the Jakarta Cempaka Putih Islamic Hospital, including two people in the intensive care unit (ICU), while 29 victims had been sent home.

Meanwhile, at Yarsi Cempaka Putih Hospital there were still 13 victims being treated, one of whom was being treated in the ICU, while one victim had returned home.

"At Pertamina Jaya Hospital, there is still one victim being treated, while six victims have returned home," he added.

According to Budi, several victims' families said their children still needed further psychological assistance after medical recovery. They hope that schools can return to operation safely and conducively.

At the same time, renovations in areas affected by the explosion are also being carried out by the ranks of the North Jakarta Metro Police and Kelapa Gading Police so that there are no traces of incidents when students return to school.

Furthermore, Kombes Budi said psychological assistance would continue for the next two weeks.

"The National Police Psychology Team will provide trauma healing services in the school environment to all students through psychoeducation activities, psychosocial assistance, counseling, and if needed psychotherapy," he said.

This step is expected to be able to help the students fully recover so that they can return to their activities in peace and confidence.

In addition to investigations and psychological assistance, Polda Metro Jaya also ensures that cross-institutional coordination, including with hospitals, education services, and related ministries so that medical and psychosocial handling runs in parallel and measurable.

He appealed to the public to remain calm, not to be easily provoked, and to play an active role in maintaining environmental security.

He advised, if people find suspicious activities or objects, immediately report them via emergency service 110 without having to come directly to the police station.

"Polri reporting services are now digital and modern-based, allowing people to provide information quickly and safely. Community participation is an important part in preventing similar incidents from happening again and creating a safe and orderly Jakarta," he said.
