JAKARTA - The southern route of Banjarwangi-Cikajang in Garut Regency, West Java can return to normal and can be crossed by motorized vehicles from two directions which were previously covered by landslide material due to heavy rains.

"The Cikajang-Banjarwangi route last night was cleaned and last night it was also smooth," said Head of the Garut Police Traffic Unit Iptu Aang Andi Suhandi, quoted from ANTARA, Sunday, November 9.

He said the heavy rain that had been going on since a few days ago caused landslides and fallen trees on a number of roads.

The incident, he said, often closed the road which eventually hampered the flow of vehicle traffic, including areas prone to disasters in the southern region of Garut, such as Banjarwangi.

"South lanes are prone to landslides, that's why we and other ranks are ready to overcome the landslide-affected route," he said.

The head of the Banjarwangi Police, Ipda Ipar Suparlan, added that the route is an area prone to landslides because there are cliffs and ravines.

During the current rainy season, he said, several landslides have occurred that have hit the Banjarwangi-Cikajang highway which has disrupted the flow of motorized vehicles.

"The soil and rock material covered parts of the road, disrupting the traffic flow of vehicles passing through the main route," he said.

He conveyed that the ranks of the Banjarwangi Police after receiving information that landslides immediately coordinated with the relevant agencies assisted by the community to clean up landslide materials.

"We are deploying heavy equipment to speed up cleaning so that traffic flow returns to normal," he said.

He appealed to the public to always be vigilant and avoid lanes that are prone to landslides during the rainy season.

"We urge the public to remain vigilant, especially in areas prone to landslides when heavy rains fall," he said.
