JAKARTA - The National Narokita Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (BNN RI) destroyed about 69 tons of marijuana from the discovery of a 6.5 hectare marijuana field in North Aceh, Aceh. "In this activity, the BNN team managed to find six marijuana field points in Teupin Rusep Village, Sawang District, North Aceh Regency, as a result of investigations and mapping areas prone to narcotics trafficking in Aceh," said Komjen Suyudi in a written statement, Thursday 6 November 2025.

Based on the results of field identification, the six field points have a total area of about 6.5 hectares, with an estimated number of cannabis plants reaching 97,000 stems and a total wet weight of about 69 tons. The location of the discovery is as follows:

Suyudi emphasized that this destruction was carried out directly at the location of the discovery by involving 151 personnel from the Joint Team consisting of the Central BNN, BNN City of Lhokseumawe, TNI, Polri, Satpol PP, Aceh District Attorney, Directorate General of Customs and Excise, Agriculture Service, and Forestry Service.

"All of these enforcement activities are implementations of Article 92 paragraph (1) and (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, which requires the destruction of narcotics plants found in Indonesian territory," he explained.

According to him, the Teupin Rusep area in North Aceh is one of the locations for the Grand Design Alternative Development (GDAD) program pilot project initiated by BNN.

Apart from Aceh Besar, Bireuen, and Gayo Lues, the discovery of marijuana land in this area has become a special concern for BNN to strengthen the Alternative Development program more intensively, through skills training (life skills) and assistance so that people can switch from growing marijuana to agricultural commodities that are legal, productive, and economic-valued.
