CIREBON - The Cirebon City Police have arrested a repeat drug offender with the initials IS (42) who threatened officers with a sharp weapon during a raid at a boarding house in Cirebon City, West Java, early Thursday morning.

Cirebon City Police Chief, AKBP Eko Iskandar, said the arrest stemmed from a report from a community member concerned about suspicious activity in their neighborhood.

"The community report indicated that drug use and distribution were taking place at a location in Cirebon," Eko said in Cirebon on Thursday.

Officers then arrived at the location to conduct a raid. However, the suspect resisted, wielding a sharp weapon and breaking a window to prevent officers from entering.

"The situation became tense because the suspect, assisted by his family, blocked the officers. The suspect broke the window and threatened officers with a sharp weapon during the raid," he said.

Eko explained that police withdrew to avoid a clash and continued their search for the suspect. Finally, at around 3:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB), IS was arrested at a boarding house in Cirebon City.

"Urine tests showed IS tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine (crystal methamphetamine). The perpetrator is also a repeat offender in drug cases, having been in and out of prison twice," said Eko.

Police also confiscated evidence in the form of an axe and sickle used by the perpetrator to threaten officers.

Eko emphasized that IS is now being charged under Article 2 paragraph (1) of Emergency Law Number 12 of 1951 concerning the possession of sharp weapons without a permit, as well as Article 212 of the Criminal Code for resisting officers.

"We will not back down in our efforts to eradicate drug trafficking in the jurisdiction of the Cirebon City Police," he asserted.
