JAKARTA - President of the United States (US) Donald Trump reiterated his claim to a ceasefire between India and Pakistan was due to his intervention.

Trump said the threat of high tariffs that made exports drop to cut trade made India-Pakistan stop fighting.

At an event in Miami, Florida, USA on Wednesday local time, Trump added, he had completed eight wars in nine months of his term. He stressed that he had a key role to 'peacemaker' in what he did to reach a ceasefire.

"You know, I was in the middle of a trade deal with the two (India and Pakistan), and then I read on the front page of a newspaper... I heard they were going to war," Trump quoted the PTI news agency as saying Thursday, November 6.

Trump added that a total of eight planes had been shot down during the Indian-Pakistan military conflict. After previously claiming seven planes were crashed.

I said, this is war, and they will. And they are two nuclear countries. I said, 'I will not make any trade deals with you unless you agree to make peace,' he said.

"Both countries said, 'It's impossible. It has nothing to do with...' I said, 'This has something to do with it. You are nuclear power. I will not trade with you. We will not make any deals with you if you are at war with each other'," Trump continued.

Referring to the claims made, it is suspected that there was a Trump line of communication with India and Pakistan amid the conflict on May 9, 2025. A day later on May 10, the two nuclear armed rivals who almost fell into the brink of destruction in the escalation of the high war agreed to reach a ceasefire.

"A day later, I got a call saying, 'We have made peace'. They stopped. I said, 'Thank you. Let's trade'. Isn't that great? Tariffs are like that... Without tariffs, that's never going to happen," Trump said to applause from the event participants.

India is known to have denied US President Donald Trump's involvement in a ceasefire agreement between his country and Pakistan.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that during the war period, there was absolutely no communication between him and Trump regarding the Indian-Pakistan ceasefire.

"There is absolutely no [Modi with Trump] talk of matters such as the Indian-US trade deal or US mediation between India and Pakistan," Indian Foreign Minister

India has repeatedly rejected Trump's claim to be instrumental in achieving the ceasefire. The Indian PM also emphasized this during the G7 Summit in Canada.

Trump Tariffs For India And Pakistan

Pakistan is subject to a tariff of 19 percent, but India bears a heavier burden on Trump's policy.

In the announcement of Trump's tariff, India is subject to a 25 percent tariff in response to the "highest tariff for US goods."

However, India was again charged with an additional 25 percent tariff by Trump.

The additional tax, which automatically raises fares for India to 50 percent, is a punishment for India buying Russian oil and its participation in the BRICS bloc.

India's efforts to stabilize national oil and gas conditions and engage in BRICS amid the Trump campaign are trying to end the Russian-Ukraine war. According to Trump, India's efforts are a form of anti-US policy.
