JAKARTA - Indonesia highlighted Israel's repeated violations in a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, revealing hundreds of people have been killed or injured since the ceasefire took effect.

This was conveyed by the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, in a meeting of a number of Arab countries and the majority of Muslims in Istanbul, Turkey on November 3.

Foreign Minister Sugiono said Indonesia and a number of countries which he later mentioned as the New York Group met in Istanbul to discuss the development of the peace process in Gaza.

"In yesterday's crisis, our concern was that there was still violence, an attack carried out by Israel, which according to our records up to 29 October 29, reached (around) 200 people who died and nearly 600 were injured," said the Indonesian Foreign Minister in a statement in Jakarta, Wednesday, November 5.

Foreign Minister Sugiono said that during the meeting, Indonesia conveyed to countries that had direct contact to convey what was being a concern and hoped that all parties could exercise restraint.

"So that what we hope for from this peace and ceasefire process can actually happen, according to what has been agreed together, in accordance with the spirit that is the basis for the declaration in Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt)," he said.

Foreign Minister Sugiono further explained that the forum also discussed discussions carried out by key negotiators in peace efforts in Gaza as well as matters that became a common concern.

Foreign Minister Sugiono said Indonesia wanted to contribute to the peace process in the Palestinian enclave.

"The point is that we expect the real ceasefire, humanitarian acid to run smoothly and the reconstruction process goes according to what was discussed from the start," he said.

Regarding Israeli compliance, Foreign Minister Sugiono said Indonesia could not force Israel because it did not make direct contact.

"But we convey the concern to friends who have a direct route to talk. Everyone must have one good intention to be able to pass this peace process," he said.

"Anyone who has a direct connection, we convey (Indonesian concern)," Foreign Minister Sugiono added when asked if he would lobby the United States to comply with the ceasefire agreement.

Israel and Hamas continue indirect negotiations mediated by Egypt, Qatar, the United States, and Turkey to resolve the situation in the Gaza Strip on October 6.

On October 9, the warring parties signed an agreement on the implementation of the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire plan proposed by US President Donald Trump. The ceasefire took effect on October 10.

However, since then Israel has been recorded as still carrying out attacks on the Gaza region.

Yesterday, medical sources in Gaza confirmed the death toll from Palestine since the ceasefire deal had reached 240 people, while another 607 were injured, quoted from WAFA.

Meanwhile, the total death toll from Palestine since the latest conflict broke out on October 7, 2023 has reached 68,872 people, the majority of women and children, and 170,677 others injured.
