South Korean Intelligence: North Korea Sends 5,000 Construction Troops To Russia

JAKARTA - North Korea (North Korea) has sent about 5,000 construction troops to Russia since September to assist in the process of rebuilding infrastructure.

"Infrastructure reconstruction," said South Korean (South Korean) lawmaker Lee Seong-kweun on Tuesday, after a briefing from Seoul intelligence agency, quoted from AFP, Wednesday, November 5.

Lee Seong said thousands of North Korean construction troops had been moved to Russia in stages since September and are expected to be mobilized for infrastructure reconstruction.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is considered increasingly brave to face the war in Ukraine, securing important support from Russia after sending thousands of troops to fight alongside Russian troops.

He added that "signs of training and ongoing personnel selection in preparation for the deployment of additional troops have been detected."

According to Lee, the intelligence agency has received information that some 10,000 North Korean troops are expected to be mobilized near the Russia-Ukraine border.

Based on South Korean estimates, at least 600 North Korean soldiers were killed in the Ukraine war and thousands more were injured.

Analysts say North Korea received financial assistance, military technology, as well as food and energy supplies from Russia in exchange for troop deliveries.

This allows it to avoid the harsh international sanctions imposed on its nuclear and missile programs that used to be an important bargaining instrument for the United States.
