South Lampung Police are still investigating the discovery of the body of an unidentified baby in the rubber plantation area of PTPN VII Trikora, Hamlet VI, Rejomulyo Village, Jati Agung District, on Thursday afternoon.

Head of the South Lampung Police Criminal Investigation Unit AKP Indik Rusmono said his party had taken the first steps to investigate, including processing the crime scene (TKP), examining witnesses, and collecting evidence at the location.

"We have secured the gray backpack where the baby's body was found. Currently, the body has been taken to Bhayangkara Hospital for an autopsy by the forensic team," said Indik in Kalida, Antara, Friday, October 31.

He explained that medical examinations will focus on identifying the gender, age, and cause of death of the baby.

"The condition of the body is rotten, but the autopsy results will really help us find out if there are signs of violence or other factors that cause death," he said.

The police are now also investigating the possibility of additional witnesses or surveillance camera (CCTV) footage around the plantation area to reveal the perpetrator who dumped the baby.

"We urge people who know or see something suspicious to report it immediately. The slightest information means a lot to uncover this case," he said.

According to Indik, the baby's body was first found by a rubber chipper named Kaswanto (55), who smelled a pungent smell from the bush on the edge of the garden around 16.00 WIB.

When tracing the source of the smell, he found a gray backpack lying on his chest. After opening it, it turned out that the baby's body was in a decomposed condition and surrounded by loggery," said Indik.

The police are still waiting for the autopsy results and hope that public reports can help speed up the process of investigating this case.
