Prabowo Speech In Malaysia: Separated World, ASEAN Must Stay United And Strong

JAKARTA - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto invited all ASEAN member countries to remain united as the world was divided and the global order lost its balance, which he conveyed while attending the ASEAN 47th Summit retret session in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Sunday, October 26.

In his speech, President Prabowo opened his statement by confirming that ASEAN's unity and centrality is the main foundation in maintaining regional stability and independence.

"The world today is divided. Competition is getting sharper. Trust is fading. And the global order is losing balance. In an environment like this, ASEAN must remain united. Unity and centrality are not just key words. Without it, we are at risk divided by greater powers, "said President Prabowo in a statement received Monday, October 27.

ASEAN's strength, according to President Prabowo, lies not in confrontation, but in the ability to continue to build constructive and inclusive engagement.

Through this approach, the President said that ASEAN has succeeded in overcoming various challenges in the past through dialogue and mutual respect.

"That is ASEAN's way, guided by dialogue, patience, and mutual respect. It is through this approach that we have overcome challenges in the past and through the same spirit we must continue to move forward," said the President.

In the context of maritime security, President Prabowo also highlighted the importance of ASEAN collective votes to enforce international marine law principles.

Prabowo encouraged ASEAN to continue to speak one voice to enforce UNCLOS 1982, as well as seek the initial completion of an effective and substantive code of ethics next year.

Closing his statement, President Prabowo also invited all ASEAN member countries to strengthen solidarity in facing various challenges.

The Head of State emphasized that the unity of ASEAN is not just a slogan, but a path to a peaceful and prosperous future.

"If we are divided, we lose credibility. If we unite, we cannot be ignored. Indonesia is ready to tread this path together for the sake of peace, for the sake of prosperity, for the sake of our people," concluded the President.
