Maluku To Host International Scale Fishing Competition

AMBON - Maluku Province officially hosts international fishing competitions through the Lawamena Fishing Tournament 2025 event which is contesting the Maluku Governor's Cup, located in Eri Village, Ambon City.

Maluku Regional Secretary Sadali Ie in Ambon, Saturday said that the organization of this tournament reaffirmed the commitment of the Maluku Provincial Government to make this area a national fish barn as well as a leading marine tourism destination.

There were 403 participants taking part in this event, including anglers from various districts/cities in Maluku such as Ambon City, Central Maluku, West Seram (SBB), Eastern Seram (SBT), and Buru Island, as well as international participants from the United States, New Zealand, and Australia.

Furthermore, Sadali emphasized that Lawamena Fishing Tournament is not just a fishing competition, but also has a deep philosophical meaning.

"Lawamena in our customary language means the spirit of hard work, mutual cooperation, and togetherness to achieve goals. The governor hopes that the spirit of Lawamena will be revived to preserve the sea, promote coastal tourism, and move the economy of the maritime community," he explained.

He added that the sea is the greatest gift for the people of Maluku which must be maintained and utilized wisely.

"This competition is an event to show that Maluku is a haven for anglers and marine tourists, as well as strengthen Maluku branding as a fish barn," said Sadali.

In addition to the main competition that competes for a total prize of tens of millions of rupiah and the main prize in the form of a Yamaha stamp machine, this activity is also coupled with a Cheap Food Title to support people's purchasing power and Free Treatment as a form of health services for local residents.

"For all participants, we hope to uphold the best sportsmanship, honesty, and abilities, while still prioritizing ethics and friendship, in order to create positive synergies for 'Maluku Pung Bae'," concluded Sadali.
