JAKARTA - An explosion at a gas distribution station in the industrial city of Ras Laffan, Qatar, killed 13 people, including citizens of India and Pakistan.

"This tragedy has claimed the lives of 13 of our employees from India and Pakistan. A total of 66 other employees were injured and are currently being treated in hospital. Their health condition is not too worrying," said Qatar Energy Minister Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabipada Monday, June 22, reported by ANTARA from Sputnik.

Among the injured victims were citizens of Qatar, Asia, and Africa. The energy minister said the explosion was not related to military action or sabotage.

"The incident at the Barzan gas distribution station, which was the site of the explosion, did not have a negative impact on the environment," he said.

The explosion also did not affect export volumes or domestic supplies.

At the same time, Al Kaabi could not confirm when the facility could resume operations because a thorough assessment of the damage still needed to be carried out.

According to him, the Barzan gas plant has been fully closed since December 2025 and has only been reopened two days ago.

Previously, Sunday night (21/6), the interior minister of Qatar reported an internal explosion at the local gas supply facility Barzan in Ras Laffayang City caused by a technical incident resulting in several people being injured.
