A large fire scorched a shop selling oil and motorcycle parts in the Rear Cross area, Olo Village, West Padang District, Padang City, West Sumatra, Friday, October 24 in the morning. One person was reported dead after being trapped in a burning building.
The incident occurred at around 03.20 WIB, the fire suddenly grew on the two-story shophouse. Local residents who panicked tried to provide help, but the flames that spread quickly made the shop owner not have time to save himself.
Padang City Firefighters (Damkar) who received reports immediately deployed several fleets to the location. After struggling for almost an hour, the fire was successfully controlled so as not to spread to the surrounding buildings.
The Head of Operations for the Padang City Fire Department, Rinaldi, confirmed the incident. "Our team arrived at the location after receiving reports from residents at around 03.20 WIB. The fire had grown when we arrived, and efforts to extinguish it immediately were carried out," he said.
Rinaldi said that one victim named Bobi (30) was found dead on the second floor of the building. The victim did not have time to save himself and was found after the cooling process was complete. The body was then taken to Bhayangkara Padang Hospital.
