BOGOR - The Bogor City Government (Pemkot), through the Transportation Agency (Dishub), remains committed to improving public transportation in Bogor City. One way to do this is by conducting a public transportation roadworthiness operation on Wednesday, October 15th.
Deputy Mayor of Bogor, Jenal Mutaqin, was present at the public transportation (angkot) operation, conducted by the Transportation Agency and the Bogor City Police on Jalan Raya Pajajaran, East Bogor District.
"Currently, there are 16 angkot (angkot) on routes 06 and 13 that are technically in poor condition and pose a danger to both passengers and drivers. We are collaborating with the Bogor City Police. This is important because we have two authorities that we must jointly safeguard and enforce," said Jenal Mutaqin on the sidelines of the operation.
He continued, explaining that the operation revealed that many angkot lacked proper vehicle documents and lacked proper roadworthiness. Some drivers even lacked driver's licenses (SIM).
"How can we create safe and comfortable transportation services if the drivers don't even have identification and a driving license?" he stressed.
Jenal Mutaqin stated that he continues to support the Transportation Agency's efforts to enforce regulations. He believes the public must be protected, and passengers must feel safe and comfortable.
Meanwhile, the Bogor City Government continues to implement the rerouting, reduction, and conversion programs for public transportation (angkot). Compensation is also being provided to public transportation business owners.
"We are providing compensation twice. First, a 10-year extension, then an additional one until an agreement is reached on the minutes. We are doing this because we are still considering the community's economic situation. But if we don't start now, when will Bogor be able to provide a clean, comfortable, and safe transportation service, especially for public transportation (angkot)," he explained.
Jenal Mutaqin confirmed that the public transportation caught in the operation was unfit for operation due to its high level of danger.
The 16 public transportation units seized by officers were immediately taken to the Transportation Agency office and a landfill in Kayumanis.
"The technical team checked it directly. The car's starter wasn't in place, and the cables were strewn about, potentially short-circuiting and burning the seats. There were also people whose gas tank caps had been replaced with mineral water bottles," he said.
He added that the 16 public transportation vehicles that were seized would be evaluated. Technically, the vehicles were no longer operational and could no longer be permitted to operate due to the danger to passengers.
