The Attorney General's Office (AGO) has stated that it is ready to provide legal assistance to the Indonesian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah to prevent potential corruption in the new ministry.
The readiness of the cooperation was discussed at a meeting between the Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochammad Irfan Yusuf and Attorney General ST Burhanuddin at the Attorney General's Main Building, Jakarta, Tuesday, October 14.
"The point is, the Prosecutor's Office will fully support what is expected and requested by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah," said Burhanuddin.
The assistance is carried out in order to maintain integrity and prevent corrupt practices.
"Of course this is in the context of cleanliness, not cleaning up dirt, but avoiding corrupt acts," he said.
Burhanuddin added that assistance also aims to prevent corrupt practices in the management of Hajj funds that have occurred at the Ministry of Religion from happening again in this new ministry.
"We know that what happened yesterday at the Ministry of Religion is an act that should not be done, but is still happening. I hope that the ministry will not move with the disease," said the Attorney General.
Meanwhile, Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochammad Irfan Yusuf said that this collaboration was a follow-up to the mandate of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, so that the implementation of the pilgrimage would run clean, transparent, and accountable.
"From the start, we have asked for assistance from the Attorney General's Office and also the KPK to ensure that the implementation of the Hajj runs according to the direction of the President," said Irfan.
He explained that the Prosecutor's Office would be involved in a number of important aspects, including the transfer of assets from the Ministry of Religion to the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, as well as the tracking and tracing process for hundreds of prospective officials and employees at the ministry.
"We ask the Prosecutor's Office for help to trace the names of around 300-400 prospective employees so that they can be ascertained that they are clean people and deserve to join us," he said.
The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah together with the AGO are also exploring cooperation in monitoring the procurement of goods and services, both domestically and abroad. In this scheme, the AGO will assign a number of personnel to oversee vulnerable points that have the potential to become gaps in corruption and rent practices.
