DPR Urges Press Council To Call Trans7, 'Xpose Uncensored' View Is Considered Harassing Lirboyo Ulama

JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission VIII DPR RI Marwan Dasopang asked the Press Council to summon the editor-in-chief of Trans7 following the 'Xpose Uncensored' program which was considered not educating and insulting the dignity of the ulama, especially against Kiai Anwar Manshur, the caretaker of the Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School, Kediri, East Java.

Such reports cannot be justified. Islamic boarding schools are institutions that build moral and adaptary values. Don't turn them into evil and destructive," Marwan said in a confirmed statement in Jakarta, Antara, Tuesday, October 14.

Marwan assessed that the Trans7 show had led a negative public opinion towards Islamic boarding schools. According to him, the pesantren, which has been known as a place for moral guidance, is actually described as a source of bad behavior.

"Bad images presented with all the spices of the narrative are very evil. If Trans7 does not understand the pesantren, then learn first, then make coverage," he said.

The PKB politician emphasized that the Press Council must summon the editor-in-chief of Trans7 to be asked for an explanation and accountability. He reminded that pesantren is an educational institution that plays a major role in producing a generation of knowledge, culture, and morals.

Meanwhile, Trans7 Production Director Andi Chairil apologized to Kiai Haji Anwar Manshur and Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School extended family for the broadcast.

"We would like to express our deepest apologies to the leaders of the Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School, Kiai Haji Anwar Manshur, along with extended families, as well as caregivers, students, and alumni," Andi said via video caption.

He admitted that there was negligence in the editing process and content censorship from outside parties. Even so, his party did not let go of the error.

"We have apologized directly to one of the sons of Kiai Haji Anwar Manshur on Monday (13/10) night," he said.
