JAKARTA - The Israeli government has officially approved a ceasefire marking the start of the first phase of the deal to end the two-year war in Gaza.

"The government has just approved the framework for the release of all hostages - both alive and dead," wrote Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's X account (PM), Friday, October 10.

The deal includes the release of Israeli hostages detained in Gaza, and Palestinian prisoners locked up in Israel. Some Israeli troops will also be withdrawn from Gaza by placing the United States (US) army as guards for the implementation of the deal.

Citing Reuters, here are the details of the first phase of the Israeli-Hamas ceasefire agreement in Gaza:

Ceasefire And Withdrawal Of Israeli Army

- The ceasefire came 24 hours after Israel announced it agreed on Friday, October 10 in the early hours of local time. The Israeli military later declared the ceasefire effective from Friday afternoon.

- Within 24 hours, the Israeli military will retreat to the agreed line from points in Gaza City to minimize friction with Gaza's civilian population. However, it is possible that about half of Gaza's territory will still be controlled by Israel.

Hostage Release

- After 72 hours of the ceasefire deal, 48 hostages will be released by Hamas and handed over to the Israeli military. The hostages include 20 surviving hostages, and the bodies of 28 hostages who died.

- Hamas has indicated that the process of evacuating the bodies of some of the dead hostages may take longer, as not all burial sites are known.

Israel's hostage-taking coordinator, Gal Hirsch, said on Thursday this week that international forces would help find the remains of the hostages that Hamas could not find.

- The next process, Israel will release 250 Palestinians convicted or accused of violating security, as well as 1,700 adults and 22 minors detained in Gaza during the war, and bodies of 360 fighters.

- Palestinians detained by Israel will be released back into Gaza. Detainees convicted of killing Israelis will be released into Gaza or deported abroad, and will be permanently prohibited from entering the West Bank and Israel.

Humanitarian Aid

- Humanitarian aid will enter Gaza intensively without obstacles that Israel has often done before. Aid distributions are also allowed to move freely between northern and southern Gaza through two main roads.

- Two Israeli officials said 600 trucks containing aid would soon enter Gaza every day. According to one of them, the trucks will mostly transport food, medical equipment, shelter equipment, fuel, and gas for cooking.

The equipment needed to repair damaged infrastructure such as waterways, waste disposal canals, and bakeries will also be allowed in.

- Gazans are also allowed to leave Gaza for Egypt via the Rafah crossing. The permit first coordinates with Egypt and Israel under the supervision of the European Union (EU) delegation.
