The National Police's Traffic Corps (Korlantas) targets the installation of 5,000 units of electronic traffic law enforcement (ETLE) systems throughout Indonesia by 2027 as part of the digital transformation of traffic law enforcement.

The Head of Korlantas Polri, Inspector General of Police Agus Suryonugroho, said that so far there have been 1,641 ETLEs actively operating in various regions. This number will continue to be increased gradually in the next two years.

"We will add more of this later. It is possible that the target in 2027 can reach 3,000 to 5,000 ETLES," Agus said at a press conference at the Korlantas Polri Building, South Jakarta, Thursday, October 9, as quoted by ANTARA.

Agus explained that the development of the ETLE system is an important step in supporting the era of digitizing public services and responding to people's needs for law enforcement that is transparent and efficient.

"In this era of digital transformation, we want to present a system that really answers people's expectations of order and safety on the road," he said.

He also explained that the application of electronic ticketing proved effective in reducing the number of fatal accidents on the highway. Based on data from the first semester of 2025, the number of traffic fatalities decreased to 19.8 percent or the equivalent of around 2,512 lives that were saved.

"This means that the use of ETLE is not just taking action against violations, but also saving more lives," said Agus.

Agus explained that currently there are three types of ETLE used by the police, namely ETLE handle, portable, and mobile.

ETLE handle is a small device in the form of a scanner connected to a smartphone and used by certified traffic officers. This type is considered more practical and flexible for use in the field.

Furthermore, ETLE portable has a static ETLE camera shape on the highway, but can be moved and used in various locations using patrol vehicles.

Meanwhile, ETLE mobile is permanently installed on traffic police patrol cars. Each vehicle is equipped with eight cameras capable of recording various types of traffic violations automatically during the patrol.

With the development of the ETLE system, Korlantas Polri hopes that the entire traffic law enforcement process in Indonesia will be more modern, accurate, and accountable.
