JAKARTA - United States President Donald Trump said on Wednesday he might be going to Egypt this weekend as his negotiators seek to reach a ceasefire agreement for the hostages in the Gaza Strip, Palestine.

He said this when the Hamas and Israeli delegations conducted indirect negotiations in Egypt with US, Egyptian and Qatar mediators, discussing the 21-point peace proposal initiated by President Trump.

Speaking at the White House, President Trump said the deal was "very close," and that he might be leaving on Saturday to the region.

He spoke after speaking with his team about the negotiations held at the Sharm el-Sheikh resort, Egypt.

When President Trump held the event, Foreign Minister Marco Rubio entered the room and handed over a note. The president read it and then explained the contents of the note.

"I was just given a note by the Foreign Minister saying we are very close to an agreement in the Middle East, and they will need me soon," President Trump said.

He said he might leave before the hostages are released or soon after.

The Republican politician ended his participation in the event at the White House saying: "I have to go now to try and solve some problems in the Middle East."

The latest conflict in the Gaza Strip broke out on October 7, 2023, when a Palestinian militant group led by Hamas attacked Israel's southern region, killing 1,200 people and causing 251 others to be held hostage, according to Israeli calculations.

Israel responded to this by carrying out airstrikes, blockades and land operations in the Gaza Strip. The two sides agreed to a ceasefire and exchange of hostages from January 19 to March 18.

Yesterday, medical sources in Gaza confirmed the death toll from Palestine since the latest conflict broke out had reached 67,183 people, while the injured reached 169,841 people, quoted from WAFA.
