Why Is NTB Really Angry Lately? This Is BMKG's Explanation

WEST LOMBOK - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) revealed that the transition phase from the dry season to the rainy season or transition was the cause of the air in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) being more hot in the last few days.

"It is now a transitional season from the dry season to the rainy season. Morning or sunny afternoon, but in the afternoon or evening there can be the potential for heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning," said Head of the Data and Analysis Team for the NTB BMKG Climatology Station, Bastian Andriano in West Lombok, Antara, Wednesday, October 8.

Bastian explained, today the weather conditions in the NTB area are dominated by sunny cloudy to thick clouds, with air temperatures ranging from 20 to 38 degrees Celsius. Air humidity is also recorded to be high to reach 100 percent in several areas.

In addition, the wind speed on the surface is relatively low, which is between 15 and 18 kilometers per hour, so that air circulation becomes less than optimal.

"The combination of these factors causes the temperature to feel hotter and makes people feel hot even though the sky looks bright," said Bastian.

The BMKG noted that during the transition period, atmospheric conditions tended to change rapidly due to the change in wind pattern. In the dry season, the wind blows from the east originating from the Australian continent, while in the rainy season the wind moves from the west originating from the Asian continent.

This sudden change in the wind direction from east to west makes the weather easy to change in the morning feel hot, but in the afternoon it can rain accompanied by lightning.

BMKG estimates that the transition period in NTB will last for the next two weeks before the region enters the rainy season in stages.

"In that period the potential for heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning will occur more frequently," said Bastian.
