JAKARTA - UNICEF spokesman James Elder warned that there is no safe place for children in the Gaza Strip when the death toll from Israeli aggression and genocide in the Palestinian enclave continues to grow.

"Everyone takes responsibility for this, but there is only one victim. Yesterday, today, and without meaningful action, tomorrow. Palestinian girls and boys," said Elder, launching WAFA October 7.

He further said Gaza City was still home to tens of thousands of children, adding "There are footless children pushing their grandparents around the rubble, children amputated struggling in the middle of dust, and mothers carrying exhausted children and their skin bleeding due to severe rashes."

Elder stressed that children were chilling under non-stop airstrikes, saying "the psychology forced on children is brutal and contradictory."

He warned that a general or thorough evacuation order to civilians did not mean that those who remained would lose their protection as civilians.

"This area is very densely populated and has lost the most basic need to survive," he explained, referring to conditions in the Al-Mawasi region on the southern coast of the Gaza Strip which is now one of the most populous places in the world.

"When the world adapts and normalizes this level of violence and poverty, something is really damaged," he said.

He stressed "international legal forces do not lie on paper, but on the determination of member states to enforce them."

Yesterday, medical sources in Gaza confirmed the death toll from Palestinian aggression and genocide since October 7, 2023, has reached 67,160 people, while injured to 169,679 people.
