Kudus Regency Government Prepares 200 Doses Of Free Rabies Vaccine, Also Sterilized 150 Cats

KUDUS - Kudus Regency Government (Pemkab), Central Java, has prepared 200 doses of free rabies vaccine to prevent the spread of rabies disease through pets.

The rabies Vaccination will be held on October 17, 2025, in the yard of Balai Jagong Kudus. In addition to vaccination, the Kudus Regency Government has also opened a free cat sterilization service with a quota of 150, "said the Head of Livestock at the Kudus Agriculture and Food Service (Dispertan) Arin Nikmah in Kudus, Antara, Thursday, October 2.

Arin explained that rabies vaccination was opened to 200 pets, while the cat sterilization program targeted 150.

Of that number, 100 are stray cats handled through the Animal Health Center (Puskeswan) together with the cat lover community, while 50 pet cats can be handled directly at the location.

'Rabies is a deadly disease that can threaten humans. Infected animals usually appear sick, lethargic, alone, can even attack aggressively. If a bite occurs, people must immediately receive medical help in less than two hours,' said Arin.

In addition to preventing rabies, the cat sterilization program also aims to control the population of stray cats so that they are more managed. The Kudus Regency Government has prepared an online registration link to make it easier for residents to register their pets.

Based on data from the Kudus Dispertan, in the last two years no rabies cases have been found in Kudus. However, in 2022 there were reports that residents were bitten by dogs, although the results of the examination confirmed that it was not rabies.

"Because the threat is real, we still have to be vigilant. Vaccination of rabies-infectious animals is the most effective preventive measure," added Arin.

This vaccination and sterilization program was held at the same time in commemoration of World Rabies Day as well as a series of Livestock Service Months.
