Al Khoziny Tragedy, DPR: Many Islamic Boarding Schools Build Their Levels, The Government Must Intervene

JAKARTA - Member of Commission VIII DPR RI, Maman Imanulhaq encourages assistance to injured victims until they recover, including parents whose children died as a result of the collapse of the Musala building at the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School, Buduran-Sidoarjo, East Java on Monday, September 29 yesterday.

"The trauma healing assistance will greatly help the victim and his family in the post-disaster recovery phase. Of course this includes parents and families of victims who died because of this incident," Maman told reporters, Thursday, October 2.

Based on data on the absence of students, there are 91 people suspected of being buried in the location before 7 people were found on Wednesday night. However, the data is only a forecast, because until now it is not certain how many students were in the prayer room when the incident occurred.

"This figure is very concerning. We hope that the evacuation process can take place quickly and all victims will be found soon," said Maman.

According to Basarnas, the collapse of the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School building was triggered by a failure in the building structure. Based on an assessment from experts, the collapsed building consists of three floors plus one floor of the roof of the cor. The collapsed building formed a pile known as a 'pancake model'.

Related to this, Maman emphasized that the safety of students and students must be a top priority in the development of educational institutions, especially Islamic boarding schools.

"There should be no compromise on construction standards and technical supervision. The lives of the students and workers cannot be at stake," said the caretaker of the Al Mizan Jatiwangi Islamic Boarding School, Majalengka, West Java.

According to the man who is familiarly called Kiai Maman, the collapse of the building during the fourth floor casting is a shared responsibility. In this case, including the central government and local governments (Pemda).

"The central government, especially the Ministry of Religion, must be able to record Islamic boarding schools that require additional infrastructure, including buildings. For example Dormitory. If the capacity is excessive, it is the government's duty to facilitate development," said Kiai Maman.

Meanwhile, for the local government, Kiai Maman reminded to provide assistance and assistance during the construction process at the Ponpes to ensure that the construction of the building is in accordance with security standards.

"Because I often find, because the students are increasing, Ponpes does self-development which in the end is in the form of a stake that is not suitable for graded buildings, ladder construction that is not in accordance with standards, and so on," said the legislator from the West Java IX electoral district.

Learning from this heartbreaking incident in Sidoarjo, Kiai Maman also encouraged the Government to be present in every construction of Islamic boarding school (Ponpes). He urged the Government to take part in every development process at Ponpes, both as facilitators, supervisors, as well as the technical assistance needed.

"So I think development at Islamic Boarding School is a shared responsibility. The responsibility of caregivers and the management of Islamic Boarding Schools, the Government, and of course also the community," said Kiai Maman.

Kiai Maman also reminded all Islamic boarding school managers in Indonesia to pay more attention to the physical safety aspects of the building. He warned that pesantren development should not only focus on academic or da'wah aspects.

"A safe and feasible infrastructure is an absolute requirement for the sustainability of pesantren," he concluded.
