UN Secretary General Welcomes President Trump's Gaza Peace Plan

JAKARTA - UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday welcomed the 20 points of United States President Donald Trump's plan to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, Palestine.

"The Secretary-General welcomed the announcement of US President Trump, which aims to achieve a sustainable ceasefire and peace for Gaza and the region," a statement from the office of spokesman for Secretary-General Guterres, reported Anadolu, October 1.

Respecting "the important roles of Arab and Muslim countries in an effort to achieve this goal," Secretary General Guterres also noted "now it is very important for all parties to commit to its agreement and implementation."

The Secretary-General of the United Nations further emphasized, "Our priority must ease the tremendous suffering caused by this conflict."

"He once again reiterated his call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, unrestricted humanitarian access in Gaza, and the release of all hostages immediately and unconditionally, and he hopes this will create conditions that will allow a two-state solution to be realized," the statement said.

The statement also stated the UN's "teguh" commitment to support all efforts towards "peace, stability, and a brighter future for the Palestinian people and Israel as well as throughout the region."

The White House announced a proposal for 20 points of conflict peace in the Gaza Strip initiated by President Trump on Monday.

He then outlined the important points of the ceasefire's plans at a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington, DC on the same day.

The proposal includes the release of all Israeli hostages in exchange for a number of Palestinian prisoners, the ceasefire of the Palestinian Hamas group, and the formation of a technocratic and apolitical Palestinian committee temporarily ruled over the enclave, among other provisions.
