Together With India, Pakistan-US Is Increasingly Intimate In Bilateral Cooperation

JAKARTA - Pakistani Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif together with Acting Pakistani Military Commander Marshal Syed Asim Munir visited the White House to meet the President of the United States (US) Donald Trump.

The meeting took place in the Oval Room. The three discussed steps to restore relations between the two countries and expand cooperation in the fields of security, trade, and regional peace.

Sharif said the meeting took place "warm and friendly". According to him, the meeting will start a new chapter in bilateral relations.

"Under the leadership of President Trump, the Pakistan-US partnership will be further strengthened for the common gain of the two countries," Sharif said in a statement released by Pakistan's PM's office, quoted from AN and AP, Friday, September 26.

With the presence of civilian and military leaders with US presidents in one bilateral meeting room, Pakistan is considered to signal a more coordinated foreign policy posture, aiming to strengthen its influence in broader Middle East and Asian security discussions.

Sharif and Munir arrived at the White House at around 17.00 on Thursday local time, at the same time Trump was signing an executive order and talking to reporters.

The meeting between the two leaders was closed to the media, with the Pakistani delegation leaving the White House at 18.18.

Relations between the US and Pakistan are gradually improving as Trump's relationship with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi increases the purchase of Russian oil at a discounted price by India since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. India and Pakistan are known to be neighbors and are fierce rivals.

Trump has drastically increased India's oil purchase rates in an effort to exert indirect economic pressure on Russia.

Meanwhile, the US and Pakistan reached an important trade deal in July 2025. The deal is expected by the US to increase Pakistan's oil reserves, most of which have not been utilized. In one content, Pakistan gets a rate reduction.
