Bareskrim Polri Intervenes To Handle MBG Toxic Cases

JAKARTA - The case of poisoning of free nutritious food (MBG) in a number of areas continues to be a public concern. The Directorate of Special Economic Crimes (Dittipideksus) of the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit officially intervened by providing assistance in handling the case.

"We are assisting in the handling process so that we can get facts related to food safety itself," said the Director of Special Crimes and Criminal Investigation of the National Police, Brigadier General Helfi Assegaf in Jakarta, Thursday, September 25.

Helfi explained that the handling of MBG poisoning cases in the regions was still carried out by the regional police and their respective police. However, Bareskrim will ensure that the food safety process is properly monitored.

"The checks are carried out from upstream to downstream. From the results of this assistance, there will be recommendations for improvement to the government and MBG organizers," he said.

Previously, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, also asked law enforcement officials to conduct an in-depth investigation regarding the rise of MBG poisoning cases. He stressed, it is important to ascertain whether the incident occurred due to negligence or whether there was an element of intent.

"This program that should be useful must go back to going well," said Dasco.
