JAKARTA - The United States (US) Secret Service has conducted an investigation regarding the disclosure of five electronic network points that can be used for criminal acts that paralyzed all smartphones in New York.
New York's Secret Service Field Office head Matt McCol said US Secret Service officials were investigating the possibility of disclosing the network with efforts to disrupt the United Nations General Assembly (UN) in New York, one of which is the announcement of Palestinian state recognition from many countries.
"We will continue to seek to identify those responsible and their intentions, including whether their plans are to disrupt the UN General Assembly and communications between government and emergency personnel during the official visits of world leaders in and around New York City," McCool said in a video statement, quoted by NBC News.

The US Secret Service is dismantling a network of electronic devices that can cripple mobile phone systems or smartphones across New York. The network can also be used to convey death threats anonymously against senior US officials, including for criminal activities.
McCool added that the network was discovered by the US Secret Service after the number of threats to US officials they protected increased earlier this year.
"Following several telecommunications-related threats aimed at senior US government officials this spring, the US Secret Service began a protective intelligence investigation to determine the level and impact of this threat on protective operations," McCool said.
