Gerindra Rahayu Politician Saraswati Resigns From DPR Members

JAKARTA - Member of the House of Representatives from the Gerindra faction, Rahayu Saraswati resigned as a member of the DPR for the period 2024-2029.

This resignation is a form of responsibility for the statement that is considered to have hurt the hearts of the people and sparked public anger, namely related to 'people ask for colonial ministry work'.

"I am Rahayu Saraswati Djojohadikusumo, a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the Gerindra Party faction who was elected from the electoral districts of West Jakarta, North Jakarta, and the Thousand Islands. Let me go through this video to convey several things," said Rahayu through a video uploaded to her personal Instagram account @rahayusaraswati on Wednesday, September 10.

"The first, starting from about two weeks before August 17, there was a statement from me from a podcast that was broadcast on YouTube on February 28, 2025, or six months ago, which was used as material to hurt people's hearts. The podcast is on the record between Indonesian TV and entitled Rahayu Saraswati," continued the Deputy Chairman of Commission VII DPR.

Rahayu explained in the podcast that she spoke to the host for more than 42 minutes about various issues.

"For people who want to know what I conveyed as a whole, please watch it to get context from what I said. My statement was taken from the 25th minute, 37 seconds until the 27th minute, 40 seconds. It's quite long actually," he explained.

"Two more minutes has been used as some sentences by those who want to ignite the anger of the community. I have no intention or purpose at all to underestimate and even demean the efforts and efforts made by the community, especially young people who want to do business but face various difficulties and challenges," he continued.

As an entrepreneur who has started an event organizer (EO), then becomes an entrepreneur and advisor for various start-ups that are being initiated by young Indonesians, Rahayu admits that it is very clear that starting a business is not easy.

However, President Prabowo Subianto's nephew realized he had a very large privilege and a family including a husband who supported him in trying.

"And even though my intention is to encourage entrepreneurship, especially in the era of digital transformation which opens the widest possible opportunity in the creative economy, I understand that my words have hurt many parties, especially those who are currently struggling to support their families, even to survive. I have a complete mistake," he said.

With the mistake he admitted, the woman who is familiarly called Sara said she had resigned as a member of the council starting today.

"Therefore, through this message, I would like to express my deepest apologies for my words and mistakes. With this, I declare my resignation as a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives to the Gerindra Party faction," said Sara.

Sara hopes that she can still be given the opportunity to complete one last task, namely the discussion and ratification of the Tourism Bill which is a legislative product at Commission VII DPR.

"On this occasion, allow me to also express my infinite gratitude to all the people in West Jakarta, North Jakarta, and the Thousand Islands who have chosen me and gave me the trust to be your representative in this period," said Sara.

"I apologize if I have disappointed you during my time in developing this task," added the legislator from the DKI Jakarta electoral district.

With the remaining funds that are still in a special account for the electoral district, Sara ensures that she will continue to provide medical equipment assistance, entrepreneurship training, and as much as possible support the empowerment of young people in her electoral district until the funds run out.

Sara stated that she remains committed to fighting against trafficking in persons, sustainable waste management and climate crisis issues including renewable energy, empowering young Indonesians, and women's representation through all organizations that she leads and coordinates.

"I thank you very much for the moral support and extraordinary prayers of all those who have put their hopes in me so far, especially to my family," said Sara.

"Remember Bro and Sis, surrendering is not the same as giving up, and the struggle for a better Indonesia does not have to be from a seat in the electoral district. We are political fighters. As long as there is injustice, as long as there are people who can't smile, we still have to fight endless," concluded Sara.
