JAKARTA - A number of Trade Unions met with the leadership of the DPR RI to ask for a legal umbrella related to the protection of online transportation workers or platform workers. The meeting took place at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Tuesday, September 9.
The leaders who received the trade union were Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, and Saan Mustopa.
The chairman of the Indonesian Public Transport Workers Union, Lili Pujiati, explained that the Ministry of Manpower (Kemenaker) has followed the platform workers convention. Meanwhile, President Prabowo Subianto has given THR to ojol workers even though not all of them have received it.
"But it is a step forward from the current government. THR, holiday bonus, we previously asked for holiday allowances but because there is no regulation so we get holiday assistance and it represents the government's concern," said Lili Pujiati at the Parliament Complex.
"It was also us from several union representatives who suggested that the president make a Presidential Decree regarding the protection of online transportation workers or platform workers," he continued.
Lili hopes that while waiting for the law that is being discussed, there will be steps forward from the president to provide comfort for online transportation workers so that they also get their rights as drivers.
"Because so far, we drivers have never had any rights such as social security. We pay BPJS ourselves even when the guarantee for a work accident is also given if we are online or carrying passengers. If we are not waiting for bus stop passengers or on the streets of an accident, we will not receive compensation," he said.
Lili hopes that President Prabowo through the Deputy Speakers of the DPR, Sufmi Dasco, Cucun and Saan, will convey that currently platform workers really need a legal umbrella.

"With this legal umbrella, we can accommodate our rights. For example, social security and also representing female drivers, because many female drivers experience sexual harassment on the streets and get protection guarantees," he concluded.
