Hendry Ch Builds Refuse To Enter The Structure But Fully Supports Ahmad Munir In Carrying Out His Duties As General Chair Of PWI 2025-2030

JAKARTA - Hendry Ch Bangun expressed his gratitude for the offer to be included in the management of the Central Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) for the period 2025-2030. However, he emphasized that he chose to be outside the structure and support Ahmad Munir who was elected as the General Chair of PWI 2025-2030 to carry out the mandate to completion.

"I was contacted and asked to join, but chose to be outside the management," said Hendry Ch Bangun, Thursday, September 4.

The former chairman of the Central PWI as a result of the 2023 Bandung Congress appreciated various proposals, including from the Minister of Trade, Meutya Hafidz, who had been reported by the mass media. According to him, there are two main reasons for rejecting the offer to enter the structure.

First, he has proven that while serving as a member and deputy chairman of the 2019 '2022 Press Council. Even though he is not a administrator, Hendry can still optimally help verify the media of PWI members. Likewise in fighting for the competency test of journalists (UKW) financed by the State Budget through the PWI Test Institute.

"For me, helping PWI's media to be verified is a moral responsibility, even if it is not an administrator," he said.

Likewise with UKW's proposal, PWI always gets the most rations because of the fact that PWI members are indeed the most compared to other Press Council constituents.

Second, Hendry refused to work with people who had slandered him on charges of corruption and abuse of office. Polda Metro Jaya has stated that the allegations are not proven through a Letter of Termination of Investigation (SP2Lidik) dated June 4, 2025.

I was slandered for more than a year with massive and systematic news. Proven untrue accusations. But they never apologized. How could I be in charge of them," he said.

Hendry hopes that his bitter experience of appointment by unscrupulous Advisory Board, Honorary Council, and Central PWI Management will no longer be repeated. According to him, the incident had stopped the organizational work program and damaged PWI's reputation in the eyes of the public.

"Let me be the last to experience it. If you want to be the General Chair of the Central PWI, use healthy methods according to PD/PRT," said the senior Kompas journalist for 34 years.

Therefore, Hendry expressed his support for Ahmad Munir, the General Chair of PWI 2025-2030, to carry out his duties until the end of the period. "Hopefully PWI will advance and function as a journalist organization that is not only the oldest and largest, but also the best," he concluded.
