Komnas HAM Encourages Police To Immediately Release Detained Demo Participants

JAKARTA - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) has encouraged the police, in this case Polda Metro Jaya, to immediately repatriate the participants of the demonstration in Jakarta in the last few days who have been detained.

"Encouraging Polda Metro Jaya to immediately release detained action participants and inform the family," said Komnas HAM Chairman Anis Hidayah as reported by ANTARA, Monday, September 1.

Anis explained that his party had conducted a field review of the Polda Metro Jaya regarding the security of the demonstration this Monday. The Komnas HAM team, which was directly led by Anis, met with the ranks of the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation.

At the meeting, Komnas received information that Polda Metro Jaya had arrested and detained 1,683 participants in the action on 25, 28, 30, and 31 August 2025.

"However, Polda Metro Jaya also stated that the data is still dynamic data and is only data at Polda Metro Jaya and not from Polres-polres Polda Metro Jaya," said Anis.

In addition, Komnas HAM on the same occasion also met 19 families who were still waiting for clarity on the status of their family members who had been detained by the police since Friday (29/8).

Therefore, in addition to encouraging the detained action participants to be released immediately, Komnas HAM also encouraged Polda Metro Jaya to be more professional, accountable, and transparent, and to distinguish the treatment of protesters from looters.

"Give access to legal aid to anyone arrested and detained," said Anis.
