Walkot Sits With Demonstrators Demanding That The National Police Chief Be Removed To Gambling Supervision In Singkawang

JAKARTA - Singkawang Mayor Tjhai Chui Mie listened to the aspirations of the demonstrators who were members of the 'Singkawang Calling Movement Alliance' calling for the removal of the National Police Chief, General Pol Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

Walkot together with elements of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) sit together to listen to demands including national and local issues that were conveyed at the demonstration site in the yard of the Singkawang DPRD office, West Kalimantan, Monday, September 1.

Student representatives from GMNI Singkawang Johri, said that the national issues raised were related to political, economic, and legal reform policies.

"This is an entry point for us to convey the aspirations of the people," he said, confiscated by Antara.

Meanwhile, on local issues, said Johri, a number of problems were found in the field and the government acknowledged, including transparency of the government, supervision of the DPRD, and improvement of public services.

"We encourage the public to participate in supervising so that the function of the government and DPRD runs optimally," he said.

He also emphasized that the alliance is committed to not carrying out anarchic actions and still conveys it in a polite and peaceful manner. "If anyone violates the law, we agree to take action according to the rules," he said.

Representative of HMI Singkawang Student Emon, expressed his appreciation because the peaceful demonstration was safe.

"All aspirations have been conveyed and well received by the City Government, DPRD, and Singkawang Police. We will then oversee the development," he said.

The aspirations conveyed nationally, among others, reject taxes that burden the people, increase labor wages by at least 10 percent, expand employment opportunities, cancel DPRD allowances, immediately ratify the Asset Confiscation Bill, and encourage legal reforms including the revision of the Criminal Procedure Code.

In addition, they asked for the dismissal of the National Police Chief, to stop repressive actions against the people, as well as to investigate officers who violate the law.

For regional issues, demands include improving the performance of the DPRD, optimizing the DPRD affirmation rights, transparency in PAD management and regional assets, improving public services, and supervising gambling activities in Singkawang.

Responding to this, the Mayor of Singkawang, Tjhai Chui Mie, appreciated students, workers, online motorcycle taxi drivers, and other elements of society who voiced their aspirations peacefully.

"What is conveyed will be followed up, especially those directly in contact with the community. We will also open up space for discussion with the alliance," he said.

The chairman of the Singkawang DPRD, Sujianto, stated the same thing. That the aspirations conveyed will be discussed together to be followed up.
