The Leadership Of Commission XI Of The DPR Considers The Allowance Of Houses Of Rp. 50 Million: We Don't Want To Be Feasible For People's Money

DENPASAR - Deputy Chairman of Commission XI of the DPR Mohamad Hekal assessed that the house allowance of Rp. 50 million per month for members of the DPR RI is still within reasonable limits, even still in accordance with applicable regulations.

"We certainly don't want to focus on people's money, but I think the allowance is still linelah with what is now in effect," said Hekal in Tabanan, Bali, Thursday, August 21.

Hekal explained that the Rp50 million allowance is a house rental allowance to replace official houses that are no longer provided by the state. He also confirmed that the policy was in effect and that the budget allocation given was fixed without any additional mechanisms if deemed insufficient.

Responding to public criticism that the amount of the allowance is too high, Hekal believes that the facilities provided are still in line with the standard needs of life in Jakarta. In fact, according to him, the income of DPR members is still lower than that of a number of provincial DPRD members on the island of Java.

"In fact, as far as I know, the total allowances and whatever the form of income are for members of the Indonesian House of Representatives, all of whom are about the domiciled and wariites of Jakarta, are still below (the allowances) of several provincial DPRDs in Java," he said.

"So in my opinion, it's not an exaggerated thing either. Indeed, I don't want to say it, but whether this is beyond the limits of appropriateness, I don't think it's very extraordinary because if it is finally made very minimal, in the end they are looking for a way to make money, which may even be more dangerous," said Hekal as quoted by ANTARA.

Previously, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, emphasized that the amount of house allowances of Rp. 50 million per month had gone through a study according to land and property price conditions in Jakarta.

According to him, the determination of the amount of house allowances of IDR 50 million per month for DPR members adjusts to the price of land and property in Jakarta.

"It has been studied as well as possible according to the conditions or prices in Jakarta, because (the DPR RI) office is in Jakarta," said Puan.

The chairman of the DPR also said that the amount of the house allowance of Rp. 50 million had been studied for 580 members of the DPR who came from 38 provinces in Indonesia.

"Because the DPR members also come from the regions," he said.

However, Puan said that her party would continue to pay close attention to the input and aspirations of the community for the amount of house allowances of Rp. 50 million per month for members of the DPR.

"Please always monitor our performance in the DPR. If there are things that are still considered not perfect, they are still too excessive, of course we will evaluate this," he said.
