JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) stated that 7.2 tons of salt (NaCl) in the Weather Modification Operation (OMC) was prepared to face potential hydrometeorological disasters.

"OMC is a strategic step in dealing with potential hydrometeorological disasters," said Head of the DKI Jakarta BPBD Data and Information Center (Kapusdatin) Mohamad Yohan as reported by ANTARA, August 19.

Yohan said that in three days the OMC implementation of the officers managed to seed 7.2 tons of NaCl in the Indramayu waters and the southern and eastern areas of Jakarta.

He explained that there were nine sorties or flights with a duration of 12 hours 52 minutes for three days of OMC.

"This effort is a form of preparedness by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to minimize the risk of flooding and maintain the safety and comfort of the community," he said.

For three days OMC, he said, could keep the weather at the center of Jakarta conducive and monitoring from mainland Jakarta officers relatively conducive.

Previously, the Head of DKI Jakarta BPBD Isnawa Adji said the Weather Modification Operation (OMC) was carried out for five days as a strategic step in preparedness to deal with potential extreme weather and hydrometeorological disasters.

"Based on weather predictions from the BMKG, there is the potential for an increase in rainfall in mid-August, therefore OMC is carried out for five days, from 17 to 21 August 2025," Isnawa said in Jakarta, Sunday (17/8) as reported by ANTARA.

OMC aims primarily for mitigating hydrometeorological disasters and supporting the smooth and security of the entire series of Commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence.

He explained that OMC was the result of a synergistic collaboration between the DKI Jakarta Provincial BPBD, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and the Indonesian Air Force National Army (TNI AU).

Isnawa stated that OMC is a form of proactive mitigation and anticipation from local governments.
