JAKARTA - Indonesian Ambassador to Cambodia Santo Darmosumarto reminded Indonesian citizens (WNI) who have been successfully repatriated to Indonesia not to be re-engaged in illegal activities in the country, or will face heavier consequences.

This was said by the Ambassador Santo in line with the repatriation of hundreds of Indonesian citizens who were previously caught in law enforcement operations held by the Cambodian authorities.

The Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh has facilitated the making of Passport Laksana Travel Letters (SPLP) for 28 Indonesian citizens who are currently at the Immigration Detention Center in the city of Siem Reap.

They are part of the 271 Indonesian citizens who were secured by the Poipet City Police in an online fraud eradication operation, which was held simultaneously in 15 provinces in Cambodia since July 14, 2025.

In a meeting with the Head of the Immigration Detention Center, Major General Po Seng Leng, representatives of the Indonesian Embassy expressed their appreciation for the cooperation and acceleration of the deportation process of Indonesian citizens.

Of the 271 Indonesian citizens who were arrested, 238 people have returned to Indonesia, while 33 others are still waiting for the process, including 28 Indonesian citizens who have now received SPLP.

"The maximum potential capacity is only 200 people, while currently it already accommodates more than 500 people from 8 border provinces around Siem Reap," said Major General Po Seng Leng.

This condition is the main reason for the accelerated deportation process, which normally takes 23 months.

Regarding Indonesian citizens who were detained in a joint operation by the Cambodian security forces, on July 21, 2025, the Indonesian Ambassador to Cambodia, Santo Darmosumarto, met with the Senior Minister/Head of the Secretariat Committee to Combat Online Scams (CCOS) Cambodia, Chhay Sinarith.

During the meeting, Minister Sinarith said that the operation succeeded in capturing 2,780 people suspected of being involved in online fraud, including 339 Indonesian citizens.

Ambassador Santo reminded all Indonesian citizens, especially those who have returned to Indonesia, not to be involved in illegal activities in Cambodia anymore.

"If there are Indonesian citizens who are again arrested for the same illegal activity, they can face much heavier and complex legal consequences," he said.

The Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh ensures that all Indonesian citizens who are still in the center of detention are in a safe and healthy condition. In addition to providing SPLP, the Indonesian Embassy also distributes food and medicine assistance. The Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh will continue to monitor the processes and conditions of Indonesian citizens until all return to the country.
