Apindo About The Joint Leave Of The Republic Of Indonesia's Anniversary: Facultative Or Optional

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian Employers' Association (Apindo), Shinta W. Kamdani, said that the private sector, collective leave in commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) is facultative or optional.

"Apindo understands that the determination of additional joint leave on August 18, 2025 is part of the Government's efforts to provide space for the community to commemorate Independence Day while strengthening the momentum of increasing domestic consumption and tourism."

"We need to convey that for the private sector, collective leave is facultative or optional. This means that the implementation is fully returned to the internal policies of each company or agreements between employers and workers as stipulated in work agreements, company regulations, or collective work agreements at the company," Shinta told VOI, Saturday, August 9, 2025.

Apindo encourages companies to manage joint leave policies wisely by considering the balance between operational sustainability and employee welfare.

Good internal coordination is believed to ensure that social and economic benefits from collective leave are still achieved without sacrificing productivity.

"Thus, the company can adjust the decision according to its operational characteristics and production needs."

"For industries that have a sustainable production rhythm such as manufacturing, collective leave can be adjusted so as not to interfere with production or distribution targets."

"On the other hand, for more flexible sectors, collective leave can be used to provide pauses for workers while at the same time supporting economic activity in other sectors," said Shinta.

In the future, Apindo hopes that the process of determining collective leave will involve cross-sectoral input so that the set schedule is more careful.

"A more careful scheduling will help ensure that this policy continues to provide social and economic benefits, without disrupting the operational continuity of strategic and less flexible sectors in the work rhythm," said Shinta.

Minister Of Manpower's Appeal To Private Companies For Leave With RI's Anniversary

The government has determined changes to the Joint Decree (SKB) of 3 Ministers concerning National Holidays and Joint Leave in 2025, which stipulates August 18, 2025 as a joint leave day.

The Minister of Manpower (Menaker), Yassierli, appealed to the company to provide opportunities for workers/laborers to participate in commemorating and enlivening Indonesian Independence on that date.

"This joint session is intended to strengthen unity, unity, and nationalism. We hope that the entire community, including workers/laborers, can actively participate in enlivening the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia," Yassierli said in his official statement, Friday, August 7, 2025.

Although collective leave is facultative, the company is advised to provide the widest possible space for workers/laborers to participate in various celebratory activities.
