River Abrasion Makes 3 Houses Collapse In Tanjabtim Jambi

JAKARTA - At least three housing units in Meharhaha Tengah Village, Meharhaha District, East Tanjung Jabung Regency (Tanjabtim), Jambi Province, collapsed due to abrasion of the river Friday, August 8 afternoon.

"There were three houses collapsed due to river abrasion, the kitchen part was swept away by the current of the river," said Head of Menharata Tengah Village, Nurhidayah at the location, Friday, which was confiscated by Antara.

He said the incident occurred Friday afternoon at around 10:00 WIB. The scene of the incident was in Parit 6 RT 02 Dusun Jaya Abadi. The location of the affected house is on the banks of the Tembikar River.

Apart from the three houses, one swallow nest building was affected in the incident, he said, there were no casualties in the incident. From the data collected, six families (KK) and 10 people were affected by the abrasion incident.

Nurhidayah said the land subsidence incident in the area had occurred twice. Previously in 2023 a similar incident had occurred around the settlement.

"The soil content there is indeed vulnerable, it used to occur. Other buildings that were threatened with collapse were around 10 houses. We asked residents to be vigilant," he said.

Meanwhile, the Acting Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Tanjabtim Regency, Indra S Gunawan, said that his party had dispatched a quick reaction team at the scene to help residents who were victims.

"One BPBD team team along with emergency handling equipment such as tents and other equipment have been sent to the location," said Indra.

BPBD asks building owners (houses) in collapsed land locations to always be alert to the threat of further landslides.
