JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar hopes that Islamic boarding school students through the Islamic boarding school Student Executive Board (BEM) can become the center of the motor change for the continued progress of Indonesia.
"In your hands is the future of the people. In your hands is the future of most of the people who are our environment. It's time for us to make the position of the pesantren BEM a pillar and hope for the future of the people," said Coordinating Minister Muhaimin Iskandar in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Saturday, August 2.
He said this when he opened the V and Halaqoh BEM Islamic Boarding Schools throughout Indonesia at the Darunnajah Islamic Boarding School, South Jakarta.
According to him, pesantren has an important role in responding to the increasingly complicated challenges of the world's political economy.
He said the role of pesantren in building economic, social and intellectual forces must be carried out to safeguard the nation's future.
Coordinating Minister Muhaimin Iskandar also encouraged Islamic boarding school students to consistently increase their self-capacity and expand networks to strengthen the contribution of pesantren in national development.
"I have high hopes that the Islamic Boarding School BEM can become the epicenter of a change movement based on moderate, inclusive, and progressive Islamic values," he said.
Meanwhile, the Chancellor of Darunnajah University, Much Hasan Darojat, welcomed the holding of the Halaqoh 7th Congress of Islamic Boarding School BEM throughout Indonesia at Darunnajah University.
