US Restricts Official Visit To Hotels In Karachi Pakistan After Threat Report

JAKARTA - The United States has temporarily restricted government employee visits to luxury hotels in Karachi, Pakistan, after receiving threat reports.

"The US Consulate General in Karachi received a threat report addressed to luxury hotels in Karachi," the US State Department said in a security warning.

The US Consulate General in Karachi has temporarily restricted visits by US government officials to these hotels.

The State Department said it sometimes states areas in foreign countries such as tourist attractions, hotels, markets, shopping centers, and restaurants are prohibited for official US government personnel in response to the threat.

The security warning appealed to the public to avoid areas and crowds, remain calm, and remain vigilant in places that are often visited by tourists and citizens of Western countries.

The State Department has now issued an appeal for travel to Pakistan that advises US citizens to reconsider travel there due to terrorism risks and potential armed conflict.

In a similar step, the British Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday also advised not to travel to several Pakistani territories, except for important purposes.
