JAKARTA - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, said that the policy of blocking passive accounts (dormant) carried out by the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) was to protect customers' accounts that did not make transactions within a certain period of time.

"We have also confirmed to PPATK the steps taken by PPATK, and we received the following explanation; that PPATK actually wants to protect the accounts of customers suspected of being bangers," said Dasco, Thursday, July 31.

Because, he said, the accounts of customers who are suspected of being dimmant even though they are not used for debit transactions or credit are often still subject to administrative costs.

"Because the accounts of the customers suspected of being dimmant, the administrative money was still taken, but then the flowers paid were not given.. That is the right of the customer not to be given," he said.

Based on confirmation with PPATK, Dasco also said that the policy to block accounts was carried out in order to eradicate online gambling because the passive account was often used to accommodate online gambling transactions.

"PPATK also found that some of the fans came from types of crimes such as online gambling," he said.

Therefore, Dasco said that if customers objected to the temporary suspension of PPATK, they could confirm it to be reopened.

"So PPATK then temporarily freezes, waiting for confirmation from the account owner, of course, and according to PPATK, it is not difficult when it is to reactivate it," he said.

"So that the customers also know that their accounts have been safe or unsafe, reduced or not reduced," he continued.

Regarding the polemic that is developing in society, Dasco again underlined that the PPATK policy was intended to save customer money.

"PPATK takes steps to save customer money," he said.

Previously, the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) temporarily suspended transactions on passive accounts (dormant) to prevent financial crimes, but customers could still reactivate them by following the procedures set.

Quoted from the announcement in the official Instagram account @ppatk_indonesia, Monday (28/7), PPATK explained that the Dormant account is a savings account, both an individual or a company, a giro account, or a foreign rupiah/valuta account that is not used for any transaction for 3 to 12 months.

Meanwhile, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) has also asked banks to monitor Dormant accounts, so as not to be used for financial crimes and increase effectiveness in handling account buying and selling

OJK Banking Supervision Chief Executive Dian Ediana Rae said that his party had asked the bank to report suspicious financial transactions to PPATK for account use by suspected criminals and analyze the flow of funds.

As for June 2025, OJK has asked banks to block around 17,026 accounts from data submitted by the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi).

Sebagai tindak lanjut, OJK melakukan pengembangan atas laporan tersebut dengan meminta perbankan melakukan penutupan rekening yang memiliki kesuai dengan Nomor Identitas Kependudukan serta melakukan ense due diligence (EDD).
