JAKARTA - The United States and Israel boycotted a conference on the implementation of a two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the United Nations (UN) on Monday.

The conference, called the official "High Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution", was held at the United Nations Headquarters, New York, United States on July 28-30.

The 193-member UN General Assembly decided in September last year that a conference on this matter would be held in 2025. The meeting, which was chaired by Saudi Arabia and France, was postponed from its original schedule last June.

Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud urged all countries to support the purpose of the conference, namely a roadmap that sets parameters for the Palestinian state while ensuring Israel's security.

"We have to make sure that this is not just well-meaning rhetoric," UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in his opening speech.

"This can and should be a decisive turning point - which catalyzes the inevitable progress towards the end of the occupation and embodies our shared aspirations for a viable two-state solution," he said.

Meanwhile, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said at the conference: "We must seek ways and means to move from the end of the war in Gaza to the end of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, at this time of war endangering the stability and security of the entire region."

Foreign Minister Barrot told La Tribune newspaper Dimanche in an interview published on Sunday he would use this week's conference to encourage other countries to join France in recognizing the Palestinian state.

In turn, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa called on all countries to "recognize the Palestinian state without delay.

"The path to peace begins with recognizing the Palestinian state and protecting it from destruction," he stressed.

"The rights of all nations must be respected, the sovereignty of all countries must be guaranteed. Palestine, and its people, can no longer be an exception," explained PM Mustafa.

Separately, a US State Department spokesman said his country would not attend a conference, describing it as a "gift to Hamas, accusing Hamas of continuing to reject a ceasefire proposal received by Israel that would lead to the release of hostages and create peace in Gaza."

A State Department spokesman added Washington voted against the General Assembly last year calling for the conference and "will not support actions that jeopardize the prospect of long-term peaceful resolutions to the conflict."

For three money, Israel also did not participate in the conference.

"This conference does not promote a solution, but rather deepens the illusion. Instead of demanding the release of the hostages and trying to dismantle the Hamas terror regime, the conference organizers are actually involved in discussions and plenary sessions that are not in accordance with reality," Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations criticized Danny Danon.

It is known that the United Nations has long supported the vision of two countries coexisting within a safe and recognized border.

Palestine wants countries in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza Strip, all of which are territory captured by Israel in the 1967 war with neighboring Arab countries.

The UN General Assembly in May last year with the majority in favor of Palestinian efforts to become a full member of the United Nations, acknowledged Palestine was eligible to join forces and recommended the UN Security Council to "consider the matter positively." The resolution received 143 votes in favor and nine votes in opposition.
