JAKARTA - PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) has begun to conduct a feasibility study or feasibility study for the expansion of the MRT Jakarta route from the Lebak Bulus MRT Depot to Serpong, South Tangerang.

The preparation of this feasibility study was carried out with PT Bumi Serpong Damai Tbk (Sinar Mas Land) which was inaugurated through the signing of a memorandum of understanding which was carried out on Thursday, July 24.

MRT Jakarta President Director Tuhiyat explained that the feasibility study for the development of the Jakarta MRT includes route identification, estimated demand, investment and operational costs, to institutional and regulatory studies. The study will last for two years.

"The signing of this memorandum of understanding is a historic moment for the construction of an urban modern railway system in Indonesia," said Tuhiyat in his statement, Friday, July 25.

Tuhiyat said that the results of the feasibility study would later be submitted to the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government as the basis for making policies for the development of mass transportation.

"This study will be submitted to the government as the policy maker in determining alternative solutions and policies related to the development of the national modern urban railway system," said Tuhiyat.

Continuing the Deputy Group CEO of Strategic Development and Assets Sinar Mas Land, Herry Hendarta, assessed that the presence of the Jakarta MRT route to its territory would increase the use of public transportation to Serpong.

Herry predicts that around 25 percent of the target of 100 thousand MRT users per day can come from BSD City and its surroundings.

"With the increasing population and economic activity in Serpong and its surroundings, the presence of MRT in this area will be a game changer in improving people's accessibility and quality of life," said Herry.
