G7 Speeds Up Delivery of Air Defense Systems to Ukraine to Long-Range Missiles

G7 leaders have pledged to increase military support for Ukraine, including the provision of additional air defense systems and long-range strike capabilities.

They also welcomed the agreement between the United States and Iran, which was considered to open up opportunities to prevent Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

In a joint statement issued after the G7 summit in France, the leaders reaffirmed their unwavering support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The group also committed to increasing pressure on Russia through additional sanctions, including measures targeting the country's oil and gas sector.

G7 leaders said they would speed up the delivery of air defense systems, interceptor missiles, and long-range strike capabilities to Ukraine, and were ready to consider extending licenses to help increase Ukraine's military production capacity.

"We agreed to provide further support to help the country get through the next winter," the statement said, referring to Ukraine's energy needs, as reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Wednesday, June 17.

The G7 also committed to intensifying economic pressure on Moscow, saying additional sanctions were needed amid US President Donald Trump's success in reaching an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which is one of the world's most important shipping routes.

Regarding developments in the Middle East, the leaders welcomed the "breakthrough agreement" between the United States and Iran. They assessed that the agreement provided a historic opportunity to prevent Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons while addressing concerns regarding Iran's regional activities and ballistic missile programs.

The statement praised Trump's role in achieving the agreement and confirmed the readiness of the G7 countries to help implement it.

The leaders also reaffirmed their support for freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz as well as support for multinational maritime security initiatives led by France and the United Kingdom. The initiative aims to facilitate the resumption of commercial shipping and ensure maritime safety in the region.

In addition, they called for a broader diplomatic agreement to continue the US-Iran memorandum of understanding and address various security concerns related to Iran's activities in the region.
