MATARAM - At least 89 health workers in Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, underwent an examination by the Professional Disciplinary Council (MDP) for Health and Medical Workers regarding allegations of malpractice against a baby named Arumi Aghnia Azkayra.
This case has been in the public spotlight after the baby's one year old right hand was amputated, after previously undergoing medical treatment since mid-June.
Head of the Health Service Division of the Bima District Health Office, Ashadi, confirmed the examination of dozens of health workers consisting of doctors and nurses.
"The total examined by MDP is 89 people. They consist of defendants and witnesses," said Ashadi in a written statement received in Mataram, Antara, Wednesday, July 23.
The health workers came from health facilities involved in handling Arumi, namely the Bolo Health Center, Sondosia Hospital, and Bima Hospital. In detail, 27 people came from the Bolo Health Center, 24 from Sondosia Hospital, and 38 from Bima Hospital.
According to Ashadi, the inspection process was carried out behind closed doors at the Bima Regency Regional Health Laboratory. He also emphasized that the Health Office only acts as a facilitator in the examination process.
"We don't know anything about what to ask. In principle, we only facilitate," he said.
Ashadi added that the results of the examination could not be submitted because they were still waiting for the follow-up process of the MDP trial to be held at the NTB Provincial Hospital, Mataram.
Meanwhile, the Bima Resort Police are also investigating allegations of malpractice in this case. The investigation is focused on implementing standard operating procedures (SOP) by health workers when providing medical treatment to Arumi.
Kasatreskrim Polres Bima, AKP Abdul Malik, said that the legal process was still under investigation. The handling of this case refers to Law Number 17 of 2023 concerning Health.
"If medical personnel are proven to be malpractice, they can be subject to disciplinary or criminal sanctions," he said.
According to Malik, if the investigation material is complete, his party will compile an investigation report (LHP) and submit it to MDP to get a professional assessment.
"The results will determine whether or not this case will go up to the investigation stage," he said.
This case began with Arumi's fever in mid-June 2025. He was then taken to the Bolo Health Center, and on June 17, medical officers installed an IV on the baby's right hand.
However, a few days later, Arumi's hand worsened and blackened until he was referred to Sondosia Hospital and then to Bima Hospital.
