Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin asked the Ministry of Defense to place doctors from the TNI to serve in 14 hospitals to be built in conflict-prone areas, including Papua.

This is done so that all medical personnel on duty in the hospital have the ability to survive in the event of an attack from certain separatist groups.

"From the Ministry of Defense, medical personnel, more health workers have defense factors and if something happens, they can take care of themselves," said Budi Gunadi Sadikin as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 22.

Apart from having a defense basis as a member of the TNI, Budi Gunadi assessed that doctors from the Ministry of Defense and the TNI have good quality to serve the community.

Budi Gunadi explained that the Ministry of Health had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Defense in the context of cooperation in the construction of the 14 hospitals.

In this collaboration, the Ministry of Defense will assist the entire construction process, starting from construction, securing hospital areas to sending medical personnel.

However, Budi Gunadi ensured that not all medical personnel on duty from hospitals came from the TNI and the Ministry of Defense.

"There are expectations from the public, from religious leaders, political figures there must be Papuans or OAPs involved. So later they will be combined to serve in hospitals," explained Budi Gunadi.

Budi ensured that the entire hospital construction process would run in 2026.

Meanwhile, Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin admitted that he had prepared quality doctors who graduated from the Faculty of Military Medicine, Defense University to serve in the 14 hospitals.

"We have a medical faculty and every year we have a graduate of the medical faculty who will become a doctor at PMI and we will contribute it to support hospitals in the regions," said Sjafrie.

His party will also deploy the Health Task Force which has served in Papua to serve at the hospital.
