JAKARTA - President of the United States (US) Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are considering a deal involving Washington to buy Ukrainian drones that have been tested on the battlefield in exchange for Kyiv buying weapons from the US.

Zelenskyy in an interview with the New York Post said his latest talks with Trump focused on a deal that would help each country improve its air technology.

Ukrainian drones are capable of striking targets as deep as 800 miles (1,300 km) in Russian territory.

"The American people need this technology, and you have to have it in your arsenal," Zelenskyy said.

The Ukrainian leader said the drone was a key tool that had allowed his country to fight Russia's invasion for more than three years.

"We will be ready to share this experience with America and other European partners," he said.

Ukraine is also negotiating with Denmark, Norway and Germany.

On Thursday, Zelenskyy announced unspecified upcoming agreements with the United States that he said would strengthen his country when he was present in parliament to propose his new government.

Demand for a US national defense and security budget next year increases spending on small unmanned aircraft - in part due to lessons learned during Russia's war in Ukraine.

Where the drone has proven to be an integral part of low-cost, but highly effective fighting.
