BMKG Warns Potential Heavy Rain And Strong Winds In Several Big Cities

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early warning in the form of potential light, moderate to heavy rain which could be accompanied by lightning and strong winds in various major cities in Indonesia on Thursday, July 17.

Quoted from the official website of the BMKG in Jakarta, forecaster Sentia Arianti said that in general the convergence area extends in the Philippine Sea and the eastern waters of the Philippines, the western Indian Ocean of Lampung, the Andaman Sea, the Aceh Sea, the South China Sea, the Halmahera Sea, and the Banda Sea.

This condition is able to increase the potential for rain cloud growth along areas that are passed by convergence or convergence.

Therefore, his party predicts that several major cities will have the potential to experience moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds, including Merauke.

Meanwhile, several other big cities will experience light rain, namely Bengkulu, Palembang, Pangkal Pinang, Bandar Lampung, Serang, Tanjung Selor, Samarinda, Palangkaraya, Banjarmasin, Palu, Mamuju, Ternate, Ambon, Sorong, Nabire, Jayapura, and Jayawijaya.

Several other big cities are predicted to experience only cloudy conditions, including Banda Aceh, Padang, Medan, Pekanbaru, Tanjung Pinang, Jambi, Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Mataram, Denpasar, Kupang, Pontianak, Manado, Gorontalo, Kendari, Makassar, and Manokwari.

For the forecast for sea waves in the territory of Indonesia, BMKG predicts that generally it is in the range of 0.5 to 2.5 meters, while high waves up to 4 meters have the potential to occur around the Indian Ocean west of Bengkulu, the Indian Ocean west of Lampung, the waters south of Java to Bali, the Indian Ocean south of Banten to West Nusa Tenggara.

Sentia Arianti also appealed to the public to be aware of the potential for tidal flooding on the coasts of the Riau Islands, Jambi, Banten, West Java, Central Java, South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, Maluku, and South Papua.
