Minister Of Environment And Forestry Reminds RDF Rorotan To Operate To Reduce Waste

JAKARTA - Minister of Environment (LH) Hanif Faisol Nurofiq will monitor Rorotan's Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) operations which must operate, responding to DKI Jakarta's statement that residents already understand the importance of the facility to reduce waste.

Minister of Environment and Forestry Hanif said that all efforts had been made to support the operation of RDF Rorotan, starting from meetings with producers to implement Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) or the responsibility of expanded producers to manage their product waste.

"After that, the Mayor (North Jakarta) has divided the tasks, I will monitor the implementation of the tasks. So the Rorotan RDF is obliged to operate, how is the affairs of the regional head," said Hanif as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 15.

Hanif said that he had received a report from the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency (LH) that waste management of around 500 kilograms had begun to be carried out at the facilitation. He himself requested that the Rorotan RDF be started operating this July, to reduce 8,000 tons of waste per day produced in the Jakarta area.

"The reaction, information to us, there is a change in the paradigm from the community. We are grateful, the most important thing is that the waste really has to be sorted. If you sort it out, God willing, there will be no problem," said Hanif.

The statement was in response to a statement from the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) that the facility was ready to be operated in stages after it was thoroughly evaluated.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Environment Agency, Asep Kuswanto, said the evaluation was carried out to minimize odors when the facility was used, which previously caused residents' protests.

In a similar statement, the Head of Rorotan Village, Cilincing District, North Jakarta, Ahmad Fitroh, believes that Rorotan residents have understood the importance of RDF facilities in overcoming waste problems after ongoing socialization.
